An overnight sleep study, or Polysomnogram (PSG), is a simple,
non-invasive and painless test used to diagnose and evaluate a variety
of sleep disorders. Various electrodes are used to monitor the
patient’s airflow, heartbeat (EKG), blood oxygen level, brain wave
patterns (EEG), eye movements, and the movements of respiratory muscles
and limbs.
The Sleep Study Experience
At ASMS, overnight sleep studies are conducted
seven nights a week on adults, children, and infants. Once
we receive a referral from the patient’s physician, our expert
staff handles all aspects of verifying insurance coverage
and then contacts the patient to arrange a convenient time
for a sleep study.
When the patient arrives on the night of the
study, he/she will be welcomed by one of our experienced
and friendly technicians, who will accommodate the patient’s needs
to ensure maximum comfort. The patient will be given his/her
own private and spacious room, and once the patient is set
up properly, the technician will leave the patient’s
room and monitor the test from a separate room. The
technician is unable to see the patient, therefore
giving the patient full privacy, though communication
is available through an intercom.
In addition to conducting sleep studies at its centers,
ASMS also offers the option of unattended sleep studies
and in-home studies, for those who qualify. |
