Sleep deprivation can cause continued health problems. If you suspect that you are suffering from a sleep disorder, you should take immediate action. Typically, to accurately diagnose your sleep disorder, you will need to have a sleep study. A sleep study is conducted at a sleep disorder center that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders, such as our Torrance CA sleep center.
When you visit the Torrance CA sleep center, the intention is to collect information about your sleep patterns. During the sleep study, our technicians monitor your sleep cycle. Using some of the most electronically computerized and advanced equipment available, they track your blood oxygen levels, your airflow and breathing cycles, muscle movements and activity, brain waves (Electroencephalogram EEG), eye movements (electromyogram EMG), electrocardiogram (EKG, ECG)and REM cycles through eye movement. These details are tracked through electrodes and sensors that are attached to your head, chest, abdomen, arms and legs.
During the night as you sleep, our systems will monitor your sleep cycles. We’ll be able to track how many times you wake at night, how you breathe during your sleep, if there are any respiratory problems, see if you have any limb movements, and track your REM cycles. Once you wake up in the morning, you are free to go home.
The results of the test will be forwarded to a sleep specialist designated by your physician for interpretation after the completion of your sleep study. The final report, including the interpretation will then be forwarded to your physician. Your physician will then determine if you are indeed suffering from a sleep disorder. The sleep study is instrumental in uncovering these problems so that they can be treated immediately. Again, your physician will meet with you to discuss the findings of the sleep study and recommend a course of action.
Before you know it, you’ll be sleeping through the night. You’ll be amazed at how energetic you feel and ready to face new challenges. |
