For Physicians

Refer once. Sleep apnea diagnosed, treated, and reported back to you.

SleepDr is a California-based sleep medicine practice that has handled 300,000+ home sleep tests since 1994. Send us a referral and we own everything from coverage verification through CPAP adherence — your patient stays in your loop, not lost in a vendor handoff.

Why physicians refer to us

Built for the way your practice actually works

We are not a sleep-in-a-box service. We are a sleep medicine practice that built our workflow around the realities of a busy referring office.

24-hour turnaround

Test results interpreted by a board-certified sleep physician and back in your hands typically within 24 hours of device return.

100+ insurance plans

Including Medicare, all major commercial plans, and most California IPAs. We verify coverage and handle prior authorization before testing.

End-to-end care continuity

Diagnosis, CPAP setup, supply resupply, and adherence reporting in a single workflow. Your patient is never bounced between vendors.

Clean clinical reports

AHI, ODI, RDI, supine vs lateral breakdown, oxygen desaturation curve, and physician interpretation in a one-page PDF you can drop into your EHR.

Dedicated account team

A named physician relations rep and clinical liaison — not a 1-800 number. Real people who know your patients and your referral patterns.

Adherence reporting

Quarterly compliance reports on your patients on CPAP therapy — usage hours, AHI on therapy, mask leak data. Useful for follow-up visits.

The referral workflow

From your fax machine to diagnosis in 5 business days

01

Submit a referral

EHR fax, phone, secure form, or our service request portal. Demographics + insurance + 1-line clinical justification — that is all we need.

02

We verify and schedule

Our intake team verifies coverage, gets prior auth if needed, and contacts the patient within 1 business day to ship the device.

03

Patient tests at home

FDA-approved device shipped to their door. One or two nights of recording. Returned in pre-paid packaging.

04

You get the report

Board-certified sleep physician interprets within 24h of device return. PDF report sent to your fax/EHR. If positive, we offer CPAP setup directly.

Who refers to us

Common referral patterns by specialty

We work with practices across primary care and specialty medicine. If your patient population includes any of the following, OSA prevalence is high enough that screening is worth the workflow time.

Primary care

STOP-BANG positive patients, refractory hypertension, daytime fatigue — refer once, we handle diagnosis through therapy.

Cardiology

Atrial fibrillation, heart failure, resistant hypertension. OSA prevalence is 40-80% in these populations.

Endocrinology

Type 2 diabetes patients with BMI >30, especially before initiating GLP-1 therapy. OSA reduces GLP-1 weight-loss response.

Pulmonology / ENT

When you need a definitive AHI before recommending CPAP, oral appliance, or surgical evaluation.

Bariatric surgery

Pre-operative OSA screening per AASM guidelines. We schedule, test, and report before your consult.

Occupational health

DOT/CDL drivers, commercial pilots, and safety-sensitive workforce screening. FMCSA-compliant documentation included.

Common questions

Before you call

Do you accept Medicare and commercial insurance?

Yes — Medicare, all major commercial plans (Blue Shield, Anthem, UHC, Aetna, Cigna, Kaiser PPO), and most California IPAs. We verify benefits and handle prior authorization at intake, before the device ships.

How fast do you turn around results?

Typical turnaround is 24 hours from device return to interpreted report in your hands. Standard fastest option is same-day if the test arrives at our lab before noon.

What test devices do you use?

WatchPAT (peripheral arterial tone), ApneaLink Air (Type 3 nasal cannula + chest band + oxygen), and NightOwl (fingertip PPG). We select the right device for the patient based on tolerance, comorbidity, and prior testing history.

Can you handle CPAP setup and supplies too?

Yes. If the patient is diagnosed with OSA and CPAP is indicated, we offer in-house DME services — machine setup, mask fitting (in-person at our Redlands office or virtual), and ongoing supply resupply. Or we send results to the patient's preferred DME if they have one.

How do I refer a patient?

Fastest is the form on this page or our service request portal. We also accept secure fax and EHR direct messaging. Just send demographics, insurance card image, and a 1-line clinical justification (e.g., "STOP-BANG 5, refractory HTN, suspect OSA").

What adherence reporting do you provide?

Quarterly compliance reports for your patients on CPAP — usage hours per night, % nights >4h, AHI on therapy, leak data, and any troubleshooting we have done. Useful for follow-up visits and for Medicare 90-day adherence documentation.
